Editorial policy

How this material is written, reviewed and corrected.

Scope

This site covers the interpretation of publicly available federal motor carrier records. It does not cover state-level programmes, international regulation, or commercial matters such as rates, contracts or insurance placement.

Sourcing

Explanations are grounded in the published behaviour of the federal systems that produce these records. Where a description reflects a convention or a widely observed pattern rather than a stated rule, the text identifies it as such.

Neutrality

No individual carrier is named, rated, praised or criticised anywhere on this site. Examples are generic by design. This is deliberate: the purpose is to explain how records work, and naming companies would invite the site to be read as an assessment of them.

Uncertainty

Where the data has known limitations, those limitations are stated in the same place as the explanation rather than buried in a caveat at the end. Readers are better served by knowing what a number cannot tell them than by a confident summary that overstates it.

Currency

Federal systems change. Pages are reviewed periodically and updated when the underlying process changes materially. Because reporting practice varies by state and by dataset, no page should be read as describing the state of any specific record at any specific moment.

Corrections

Substantiated corrections are made promptly. If a correction changes the meaning of a page rather than fixing a typographical error, the change is described on the page itself.

Advertising and sponsorship

This site carries no advertising, no sponsored content and no affiliate arrangements. Nothing on it is placed in exchange for payment.
